This week is Apprenticeship Week, and we’re celebrating the talented individuals who are shaping the future of accountancy. At Northern Accountants, our apprentices play a key role in our team, and we recently sat down with Lauren and Chloe to ask how they’re finding their apprenticeship so far.

Why an Apprenticeship?

When we asked why they chose an apprenticeship over going to university, Lauren and Chloe explained that it was all about hands-on experience. They wanted the chance to work alongside experienced professionals from day one and learn how to use accountancy software in a real working environment, skills that only come from being in the job.

Surprises and Challenges

Lauren shared that one of the biggest surprises has been how much she can learn in such a short period of time. Chloe talked about balancing work and college, and how study leave, dedicated time during the working day to revise, and the support of the wider team make it achievable.

Both apprentices have recently completed AAT Level 2 ITBK and are now progressing onto POBC, building on the confidence and capability they’ve developed so far.

What They Can’t Live Without

Even apprentices have their essentials:

  • Lauren: Iced coffee and the air fryer
  • Chloe: Her three screens – and a KitKat Chunky or two!

Looking Ahead

It’s been fantastic to see Lauren and Chloe grow in their roles, and we can’t wait to see where their apprenticeship journey takes them over the next six months and beyond.

At Northern Accountants, we’re proud to support apprentices as they gain real-world experience, develop their skills, and build exciting careers in accountancy.
