Meet the team.
What specialist skills do you offer your clients?
Excellent customer service, accountancy skills and advisory skills.
When did you start at NA (month and year)?
I joined Wintersgill in April 2015 and subsequently Northern Accountants from November 2019
What were you doing before you joined?
Immediately prior to joining NA I was fortunate enough to be in a position to take a career break to care for my young daughters. Prior to that, and after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, I worked for a large practice in Manchester and then Leeds as an Audit and Business Assurance Senior and latterly Audit and Business Assurance Manager auditing and advising multi million pound turnover businesses.
What have been your greatest professional achievements while you have been at NA?
Going the extra mile to help clients save tax and to help them solve business problems that are potentially getting in the way of running their businesses.
What’s the best thing about working at NA?
The flexible working arrangements. I feel that flexibility is the key to enable working parents to successfully juggle work life and personal life.
What reasons would you give other people for joining?
The interesting and challenging work. The opportunities to get out of the office and visit clients to further understand their businesses and develop relationships. The fantastic use of technology to free up time for the important business conversations.
What drives you to achieve great results for NA clients?
The sense of achievement when looking back on the week and noting the occasions where I have been able to help my colleagues and clients.
What is your ultimate career ambition?
To look back and feel that I have made a difference to those that I have worked alongside and to my clients.
Family life details
I am lucky to live in a beautiful Yorkshire village with my husband, two daughters and house bunny, Shuffles.
What’s playing in your car right now?
Little Mix. Chosen by my children but I do like them too and am more than happy to sing along!
Who would you most like to meet and why?
The Queen for afternoon tea. I would like to understand how she juggles her many roles so well.
If you could go back in time, what piece of advice would you most like to tell your younger self?
Don’t worry so much about qualifications and have fun whilst young!
What’s your claim to fame?
Meeting Alex Ferguson on one of my first assignments as an audit junior and having absolutely no idea who I was talking to (football isn’t my thing!).
What are your pet hates?
Negativity, moaning and complaining!
Who is your role model?
I don’t have a particular role model but I am inspired by all women who are successfully juggling a career and a family.
How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Hard working, trustworthy, reliable, honest and organised.
Name your favourite musical artist, food, film, book and TV show?
Wham (guilty secret), homemade cakes, Love Actually (just before Christmas), Wuthering Heights, Killing Eve.
What are your most overused words or phrases?
I’ve now asked you to three times so I’m going to count to three (at home and not at work!)
How long could you live without your smartphone?
For ages when I’m on holiday. I love the feeling of turning off my mobile phone at the start of a break and properly relaxing.
If you could only take 3 things to a desert island, what would they be and why?
My family (husband, daughters and house bunny), my favourite books and lots of chilled cava!
