Meet the team.
Hi my name is Ben, I’m the Operations Director at Northern Accountants and my goal is to make us the best in class at what we do.
Although I want us to constantly strive to be the best at everything we do, I also want us to do it the ‘NA way’ with our great team delivering awesome service to improve our client’s experience.
Away from work, I am married to Jemma and have two beautiful girls, Eliana and Elizabeth.
When contacting NA, please dial 0113 218 9552 and opt for extension number 206.
What specialist skills to you offer your clients?
Although I’m neither an accountant or customer facing, I aim to use my skills to enhance our customer’s experience of NA by focusing on all aspects of business performance and service delivery.
Although I’m fairly new to the business, I am already learning and being challenged to improve every day. It’s also evident that there is a strong company ethos of personal development – and my aim is to embrace this and champion this because it’s critical to our success.
What were you doing before you joined?
My previous roles have been in manufacturing, the culmination of which was my role as Operations Manager for a multinational engineering company.
What’s the best thing about working at NA?
Working with Phil and the team because you really feel part of something and you do that in an environment which empowers, supports and challenges you. We’re not conventional, we do things the NA way.
What reasons would you give other people for joining NA?
If you want to realise your potential and do it in a great team environment that pushes you to deliver excellence in all aspects of your work, this is where you should be.
What is your ultimate career ambition?
To retire knowing I have achieved something.
What advice would you give someone aspiring to be a successful business owner?
Be organised, disciplined and process minded to ensure constantly high standards. I also believe it is vital to understand the learning outcomes of failure. When something goes wrong, dissect it and once you know ‘why’ then you can identify the actions that will ultimately leave your business stronger.
What’s playing in your car right now?
My old Red-Hot Chilli Peppers album – and Scar Tissue is getting repeated a lot!!
Who would you most like to meet and why?
Ian Rush – my hero as a kid.
If you could go back in time, what piece of advice would you most like to tell your younger self?
Football is not as important as studying! What are your pet hates? Noisy eaters.
Who is your role model?
I don’t have one in particular, but I think I’ve worked with some great people who you pick up a lot from and that makes who you are.
How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Pragmatic, relaxed, focused, dedicated and fun.
Name your favourite musical artist, food, film, book and TV show?
Elliott Smith, Thai, The Departed, Blackout by Chris Ryan, TV wise it is currently Walking Dead but I loved the Sopranos in its hey-day.
What are your most overused words or phrases?
Stop, come back, Noooooooooooooo (all due to having young kids!).
How long could you live without your smartphone?
I would like to think easy enough but my wife will probably just laugh at that.
If you could only take 3 things to a desert island, what would they be and why?
My family, some beers and some shade – I think that would make it pretty good for a while!
